Peter was admitted as a Solicitor in 1977 and has worked exclusively in family law for over 30 years, establishing Cygnet in 2001. As Principal Solicitor, Peter has oversight across the broad range of matters we deal with. He has a particular expertise in public law cases involving children, including international adoptions, abduction and surrogacy. A member of the Law Society Children Panel since its inception, Peter acts for parents, family members and children involved in care proceedings and he is highly regarded as an expert in this specialist field. He also has extensive experience in probate and conveyancing.
John qualified as a Solicitor in 1993 after obtaining his law degree from Leeds University. He is a leading North East matrimonial finance Solicitor with a highly regarded reputation for no nonsense negotiation and speedy resolution of issues. Much sought after with a reputation for quickly identifying central issues and problem solving, John leads the Cygnet Family Law finance team and welcomes new instructions throughout the area. Practice Manager, IT specialist, Personnel Officer and just about everything else! Lisa has had 25 years experience working in the field of family law and has been with Cygnet since the Firm was established in 2001. She has been indispensable and a driving force behind Cygnet's success and has overall responsibility for quality control, office management and administrative systems. Her talents and commitment are such that she can turn her hand to a multitude of roles within the Practice and has an indepth understanding of the service provision required and client care. She ensures and demands consistently high standards.
John is our senior legal clerk and deals exclusively in public Child Care work, John has a background in Local Authority Children's Services. The immense knowledge and experience he brings to Cygnet has proven invaluable in resolving complex and serious child care issues.
Vicci is a long standing member of the Cygnet team whose knowledge and client skills are second to none. She prides herself on ensuring that clients are fully informed at every stage and has an eye for the practical details which are so important to those moving home. Vicci specialises in conveyancing and also operates an "open door" policy so clients can call any time. Vicci is a key member of the conveyancing team and would be delighted to act for you.
Following a number of years with Cygnet Lindsay qualified as a Solicitor in 2006. All her early training and post qualification experience has focused on Children Act proceedings and she acts regularly on behalf of parents, extended family members and children in serious child care proceedings. She is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and has particular expertise in adoption law. She has a particular interest in promoting the rights of vulnerable adults in the context of family law. Lindsay is a highly regarded and strong advocate, prepared to stand her ground against all the odds.
Following his graduation from Nottingham University, Alistair joined Cygnet and has developed a pivotal role as a reader and researcher for the Legal Team. He has extensive and wide ranging knowledge of legislative developments and unfolding case law. He enjoys a genuine interest in the overarching legal framework relating to the protection of children and vulnerable adults extending to wide ranging human rights issues. His supportive role in providing up to date case law and legislation to Cygnet’s multi-disciplinary Legal Team is invaluable.
Gemma had already forged a highly regarded reputation as a domestic violence practitioner before joining Cygnet in October 2012. She was recruited specifically to add yet further strength to this area of work and to service the rapidly expanding client base. Notwithstanding her specialism she is a strong all rounder with impressive communication skills. Gemma is a member of Resolution First for Family Law and recently obtained membership of the Law Society Family Law Advanced Panel with a speciality in cases involving domestic violence and in children act proceedings. Gemma welcomes new instructions and in keeping with her sympathetic approach offers appointments at short notice.
Gemma has also taken over Cygnet Law’s expanding Private Client Department dealing with Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney alongside all legal issues relating to elderly and vulnerable clients and can advise on Inheritance Tax and Care Home fees planning.
Alison joined the Cygnet team in 2013 having already established a reputation for excellence in all aspects of Children Law. She is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and is regularly instructed in complex disputes on behalf of both parents and children. She has a particular interest in surrogacy and international relocation. Alison is a highly experienced and determined advocate both within and outside the courtroom setting.
Sarah qualified as a Solicitor in 2011 and has gained a wealth of experience representing patients and their families in relation to the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act. Sarah is an accredited member of the Law Society Mental Health Panel which acknowledges her expertise in relation to this area of law. Sarah is a regular visitor to Mental Health Hospitals and Care Homes to attend meetings and provide advice and representation where required. As well as her specialist knowledge in this area Sarah also comes with a wealth of knowledge in relation to Housing Law and specifically Landlord and Tenant having provided advice and representation in this specialism for a number of years.
Stacey Phoenix, who qualified as a Solicitor in 2010, has extensive knowledge and a successful track record in all aspects of Family Law. In particular she is committed to raising awareness of legal issues around Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) relationships and parenting. At the time she was the youngest Solicitor to be awarded Law Society Children’s Panel status when she became a Panel Member in March 2012 at the age of 26. In this capacity she has represented parents, kinship carers, grandparents and children in both Public and Private Law cases. Stacey also has particular expertise in domestic violence and has received specialist training in forced marriage, Honour Based Violence and Female Genital Mutilation.
David Medd is our in-house Barrister and adds further depth and specialisation in the services we provide. David Medd studied for a Graduate Diploma in Law at Nottingham University and a Bar Vocational Course at the University of Northumbria. He was called to the Bar in 2010 and completed his Pupillage in 2012. He is a recipient of the Plowden Award for Advocacy and an Inner Temple Award for Outstanding Student. He is an expert in all areas of Family Law and has been regularly instructed by Local Authorities, parents, children and other interested parties in a wide range of Public Law Proceedings including cases of a complex nature such as serious injuries to children. He has also forged a strong reputation for dealing with complex contact and residence cases.
Lynne has been an integral member of the Cygnet Conveyancing team for a number of years and has built up a loyal Client following. Lynne effortlessly guides Clients through the legal process of buying and selling houses recognising what a stressful time this can be. Cygnet are a member of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) ensuring a quality service.
Janet is a welcome addition to the Family Law Team joining Cygnet in 2015, after qualifying as a Solicitor in 2012. She is highly specialised in all areas of Family Law but has a particular interest in Divorce, Domestic Violence and Private Law Children matters. She has a kind and sympathetic approach to all matters and is rapidly developing an expanding client base in the local area.
