How Cygnet Law can help you get your affairs in order

Today is the perfect time to reflect on what tasks and responsibilities you may have been putting off and look to how you can get organised and put your affairs in order.

At Cygnet Law, our Wills and Probate department speak to clients daily who have been thinking of putting Wills or Lasting Powers of Attorney in place. We often hear that a client has put off making an appointment time and time again because discussing the possibility of them losing capacity or what will happen after they pass away is difficult. However, after a client’s Will is in place or Lasting Power of Attorney is registered, we are then often told of how relieved they feel now that the document is in place. The staff at Cygnet Law aim to ensure your experience is as easy and stress free as possible.

Understandably, you may not want to consider what happens to your estate after you pass away, however, few things in life are guaranteed. Unfortunately, the only way to ensure that your assets pass to those you wish to receive them, is to make a Will documenting this. Similarly, unfortunate events happen every day and nobody can guarantee what the future may have in store for their health. Lasting Powers of Attorney are vital documents for people who are at risk of losing their mental capacity. They allow you to appoint people you trust (attorneys) to deal with your affairs on your behalf, whether this is in relation to your property and finance or health and welfare. A problem arises in that Lasting Powers of Attorney can only be put in place if a person has mental capacity. So, by the time someone needs to use the documents, if this is because of a lack of mental capacity, it would be too late to put them in place. This is why we at Cygnet Law recommend that these documents are considered by everyone, even if it is felt they are not relevant at the time.

Having your affairs in order can be a huge weight lifted and also prevent a lot of unnecessary cost and stress for yourself and loved ones in the future. Today is the ideal time for you to start the process of ensuring you have a Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney in place to offer comfort and protection against any unexpected events that life may throw at you.
