CYGNET LAW SUPPORTS EAST CLEVELAND CARE HOME’S WELLBEING THERAPY STRATEGIES

Posted on: March 24th, 2015

Redcar-based Cygnet Law has helped an East Cleveland care home add to its wellbeing therapy sessions for residents with dementia.

The legal firm has bought two empathy dolls for Guisborough Manor Care home, which is owned by St Martin’s Care and is home to 60 people.

Cygnet Law’s practice manager Lisa Smith heard about the positive impact the dolls can have on care home residents’ emotional wellbeing through a member of staff at Guisborough Manor.

Lisa approached Peter Medd, a Director at Cygnet Law, which specialises in family law, mental health, conveyancing and wills and probate, about supporting the home.

Mr Medd immediately agreed that Cygnet should make a donation to the home to enable it to buy two dolls.

Mr Medd said: “Cygnet Law is committed to playing an active part in the community and we enjoy working with and supporting local charities and good causes.

“Taking good care of older people is important in today’s society and it is essential that emotional, as well as physical, needs are catered for which is why we were keen to support Guisborough Manor’s wellbeing therapy strategies.”

Home manager Sharon Hammonds said: “We are very grateful to Cygnet Law for its generous donation of these dolls, which make a huge difference to our residents, particularly those with dementia.

“Residents enjoy cuddling the dolls, which can help give them comfort and stop them being distressed and agitated.   The dolls also can help residents become more communicative with relatives and staff.”

Guisborough Manor, located at Woodhouse Triangle, Middlesbrough Road, is a purpose-built home on the outskirts of Guisborough, can accommodate up to 63 residents.
