Cygnet Law has pledged £250 to pay for a CCTV system at a crime-hit football club and youth group.

Dormanstown Community Sports and Recreation Group, which was formerly Dormanstown Junior Football Club before being awarded charitable status in the summer, needed funds to pay for a CCTV system. Its community hut, consisting of a computer suite and games room, was broken into during the summer shortly after opening and money was stolen from its safe.

Redcar-based Cygnet Law, one of Cleveland’s leading law firms, heard about Dormanstown Football Club’s plight and wanted to help.

Peter Medd, Director of Cygnet Law, said: “We wanted to help the club out as they did not have peace of mind after the break-in. Providing the funds to buy the surveillance system seemed like the best thing to do to help deter future break-ins.

“Dormanstown Community Sports and Recreation Group is a fantastic community facility that is now used widely by young people, so it was vital that we offered our help.”

Matthew Phoenix, Club Coach and Committee Member, said: “We cannot thank Cygnet enough for its kind donation. Thankfully, what was stolen, except for the money which was mainly subs taken that week, was recovered by the police soon after the break-in. However, the culprits were not apprehended. Having the new CCTV system in place will really help us out and provide peace of mind.
“The club is not only a football club these days, but has become a more significant part of the community as youngsters can drop in to use the computers or games consoles and meet up socially. We also run regular homework clubs and team bonding, so it’s very popular during the summer months in particular.”

The football side of the club is also very popular with Tots upwards through to under 11s, and anyone wanting to find out more can visit:
